News Notes of the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin 7th August 2025
Notes on the Run:
The National Gallery of Australia is one of those surprise gems hidden in the slumbering gardens of the Lake foreshores. So last week our Club enjoyed a brief tour of a selection of the best artwork in the gallery under the guidance of PP Russell Dew, and then wandered to the downstairs Café for a tasty lunch and get together.
Russel took us to the colourful impressionist scenes of Monet, the intense religious themed art from an earlier era, Blue Poles and the extravagances of those early gallery purchases (now seemingly bargains at the time!), and then the development of Australian native artwork of Nolan and Roberts and the Heidelberg School known for its impressionistic style and focus on capturing the Australian landscape.
We thoroughly enjoyed the outing – something different from our weekly Rotary routine and still and good way to discuss service opportunities in the Canberra community.
