ASTRIDA IS LOOKING INTO A CASH DONATION BOX AT CANBERRA AIRPORT.
Many of you would have noticed a cash donation box at the Sydney International Airport for donation of Australian and foreign coins and notes. We are looking to create a similar box at the Canberra Airport and this could help raise funds for our charities. Astrida is contacting the Sydney Rotary Club to find out the supplier of the stand and obtain the cost of purchase.

Yours in Rotary
Russell Dew

National Library appeal for help do digitise Australia's story in Antarctica
Australia’s century-long presence in Antarctica has resulted in the mapping of millions of kilometres of uncharted territory, numerous significant scientific findings, and the establishment of research stations that still operate today.

The National Library of Australia (NLA) collections capture this history in rich detail. However, much of this remains only on paper. The NLA is appealing for support to enable more untold stories of our Antarctic history to be shared online for the first time.

Thomas Griffith Taylor joined Robert Scott's 1910 Terra Nova expedition to Antarctica, charting Antarctica's coastlines and glaciers. Despite the expedition's fatal end for Scott and many of his men, Taylor survived and returned to Australia. The NLA holds his photographs, diaries, and the sledging flag from his Antarctic journey.

Isobel Bennett was one of the first women to visit Macquarie Island in 1959 with the Australian Antarctic Research Expedition (ANARE). The NLA preserves her diaries, photographic slides, and other materials from her expedition.

As climate change continues to manifest, understanding the changes that have occurred in the Antarctic environment over the past century is crucial for our future. By donating to help digitise their papers, you can help to map our nation’s journey in Antarctica.

Thanks to Astrida for providing this information, which she received from the NLA
