FIVE SHORT BLASTS: A MUSIC EVENT ON 30 APRIL ON LAKE BURLEY GRIFFIN
A great big thank you to Bill, Warrick, Michael and Ross for getting up early in the morning set up the Bell and take it back down. I had to fill in for one of the Bell Ringers on Sunday and Bill nearly had to do the same thing on his shift. I had a good time ringing the Bell 5 long blasts and 5 short blasts.

There is a report from Michael below, along with some photos from the event. Michael can report further on this successful event at our meeting.

CHANGEOVER DINNER FOR THE END OF JUNE
I propose we have our Changeover dinner on Thursday, 26 June. I am looking for a venue where we have a separate room where we could have a presentation on autonomous cars from a speaker in Canberra. I approached the Yacht Club and they want to charge $500 for the room. The Royal Canberra Golf club does not do dinners and the Statesman charges a $350 fee for their room. I am to follow up with the Mercure and the Federal Golf Club but any other ideas would be appreciated. We can discuss this at our Thursday meeting.

NARA PEACE PARK TOUR FOR MAJURA SCHOOL ON 30 MAY
On 30 May, 90 plus Year 6 students from Majura Primary School will come for a one-hour tour of the Nara Peace Park at 1.00pm. To date I have confirmation from Bill and myself for Guides on the day but we need at least 3 Guides and if possible 4 Guides as there are 4 Classes coming.

VISIT TO THE CANBERRA SCOUT GROUP ON THE 26 MAY AT 7.15 PM
Our club helped renovate the Clubhouse and they have invited us back to view the improvements and enjoy some pikelets with them at 7.15 pm at the 3rd Scout Group Hall, Lot 19 Hovea St, O’Connor. This will be our excursion for May.

A lone piper
On a wet and cool morning on Wednesday, 30 April, some 30 souls gathered to join the Preview of Five Short Blasts, an event that’s part of the Canberra International Music Festival. During the journey in five Go Boats we experienced short musical performances at the Carillon, near Anzac Parade, under, between and on both sides of Commonwealth Bridge, on the dock at the back of the National Museum and at the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell.

It was through the Bell that we were able to get involved with this performance and all of the ticket sales from our session will go back to the Peace Bell account. That should result in something over $1200.00.

The feedback I have received has been very positive, despite the wet weather. There have been some suggestions passed to the organisers. Our final task was to ensure the Bell striker was in place for performances Thursday to Sunday. Thanks to Ross, Bill and Russell assisting me in making this happen.

Last point, we have had our first booking from the National Capital School Excursion Planner with 76 students coming Wednesday, 7 May, from Hobart to enjoy a tour to the Bell.
Michael Rabey. And thanks to Michael and President Russell for the photos
