Notes on the run
Hope everyone managed to keep themselves dry over the wet weekend. I was a drowned rat after a run on Saturday morning, but much better for it. I had a number of friends run in the Canberra Marathon on Sunday. Congratulations to everyone who entered it’s a big effort and well worth the challenge.

Thomas was visiting us this weekend as well. Good to have the whole family back together for a weekend at least.

I will be away for two weeks from Friday. I’ll miss the next meeting at the Commonwealth Club but everyone will be well looked after with Bill behind the lectern.

We have been asked to support the ANZAC Day eve remembrance with A Chorus of Women. I will not be in town but have done this over the last few years and it’s a fun evening (especially having a drink or two after!) and a good cause. I’ll get someone to collect a list of names over the next few weeks.

Have a good week.

See you on Zoom on Thursday.

Last week’s meeting: John Agnew – “Kids in Care”
Member Bill (left) thanking guest speaker John with a certificate of appreciation.

We learned a lot from John Agnew of the Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra and current AFP member, about this worthwhile project where Rotary has taken a lead role.

John is Treasurer of Kids in Care, a charity which identifies children in perilous situations particularly as a consequence of a breakdown of a family following domestic violence. In fact, much of John’s talk focussed on domestic violence as the consequences and the violence, deprivation and potential homelessness is closely associated with the Kids in Care crisis. We all know “Say No to Domestic Violence” is a crucial programme for Rotary and we all need to learn more about these often-unknown consequences and the community’s need for support. That’s our job.

So we heard about the immediate assistance programme, the “Go Bags” for boys and girls, and the Christmas gifts for children who otherwise would have nothing.

Also, bikes, gift packs and referral services are all provided within a charity where all the money and donations in kind, come from our community.

There are many opportunities where we could help, and we have put our hand up to support this worthwhile charity.
