Last week’s meeting
Last week we enjoyed a presentation by Anna Smyth from Community Services #1 who discussed the wide range of services provided by the organization providing welfare assistance in the Canberra area.

In an entertaining and sometimes light-hearted presentation, Anna showed us the enormous challenges facing the welfare sector particularly after the stresses caused bye able. The statistics quoted by Anna were confronting and it seems the task ahead will continue to stretch their resources unless we all do what we can to assist. There are not only homeless and poverty affected people in Canberra, but also working poverty where families who might have jobs simply cannot afford to buy food or look after their pets because of soaring living costs.

What can we do?

Aussie Peace Walk

Thanks to the Club members who volunteered to help Aussie Peace Walk participants ring the Peace Bell on Saturday morning – I recall Bill, Russell and Warrick being there. And I’m pleased to say the News Notes editor participated in the walk, and this year completed the marathon walk.

Club Mission Statement

There’s still time to comment on the draft Club Mission Statement:

RCCBG serves the residents of the ACT, partners with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Australia, and helps people in need overseas. We promote peace through the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell and the installation of Peace Poles throughout Australia.”

Please provide any comments to Secretary Russell before the next Board meeting, scheduled for 29 March.

Lighten up – life ain’t all that bad!

1.  I used to be able to do cartwheels. Now I tip over putting on my underwear.

2.   Hate it when I see an old person and then realize we went to high school together.

3.  I told my wife she should embrace her mistakes... so she hugged me.

4.  My wife says I have only two faults: I don't listen and ... something else.

5.  At my funeral, take the bouquet off my coffin and throw it into the crowd to see who is next.

6.  I thought growing old would take longer.

7.  I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing. Retraced my steps, got lost on the way back, now I have no idea what's going on.

8.  The officer said, "You drinking?"
I said, "You buying?"
We just laughed and laughed.
I need bail money.

9.  Life is too short to waste time matching socks.

10.  Wi-fi went down for five minutes, so I had to talk to my family. They seem like nice people.

11.  If you see me talking to myself, just move along. I'm self-employed; we're having a staff meeting.

12.  I won't be impressed with technology until I can download food.

13.  Some people call me crazy. I prefer _‘happy with a twist’_.

14.  My doctor asked if anyone in my family suffers with mental illness.
I said, "No, we all seem to enjoy it."

15.  Camping: where you spend a small fortune to live like a homeless person.

16.  "Project Manager" - because “Miracle Worker” isn't an official job title.

17.  I've reached the age where my train of thought often leaves the station without me.

18.  If you're happy and you still know it, it's your meds.
