NOTES ON THE RUN

Hi Everyone,

I had a great time at the Airport Open Day on Sunday.  Thomas and I wandered about. Didn't get on any planes as it was about an hour's wait.  We pop in and see the Weston Creek rotary club who were running a sausage sizzle.

Thanks to Sharon who has had a busy week on the membership front, look out for  Abed and Sally at our meetings and say hello.

Hope everyone learned something about Trachoma last week.  I have bought a few toothbrush and soap holders to go to Robinson River. Hopefully I will have some more on the way

Have a good week and see you on Thursday

LAST WEEK'S MEETING (31st of March) :

Speakers: Michael Millston and Sandy Fulcher . Topic: "End Trachoma Project

Last week Michael and Sandy provided a most informative talk  about this project via ZOOM.

They start from the premiss: "we have a right not to go blind"

Why we have in Australia in the year 2022 so many children lacking this basic right when billions of dollars are spent on extravagant ego promoting projects for east coast middle class is bewildering. The children clearly have a right to be provided with the necessary education and facilities to avoid the debilitating Trachoma bacteria and lead productive liives.

The project, which is largely run by ROTARY, is supported by the WHO which is endeavouring to eliminate Trachoma in 3rd world countries like Africa, South America, India and Australia (!!) by 2030.

The project encompasses a wide range of activities: installing mirrors in bathrooms so children can see  the efects of hygiene, towel hooks, face towels, a mobile laundry trailer and 2000 hygiene kits for 2000 children.. 3600 have already been distributed to beat that target and we will join in.

Michael and Sandy provided useful advice about how to move the project ahead, what to pack, how many in a post-box etc.

Their aim is to expand the distribution of hygeine packs to pre-school aged children who have parents to assist in a project called: "Families as First teachers."

The results are astounding - 27% reduction in communities now not at risk, and significant drop in Trachoma cases in the areas they operate.

An excellent project, well organized, effective and one our Club will get behind.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

Senior Citizens - Oh So True

Senior citizens are constantly being criticised for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not try to blame others.

HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT senior  citizens who took:

The melody out of music,

The pride out of appearance,

The courtesy out of driving,

The romance out of love,

The commitment out of marriage,

The responsibility out of parenthood,

The togetherness out of the family,

The learning out of education

The nativity scene out of cities,

The civility out of behaviour,

The refinement out of language,

The dedication out of employment,

The prudence out of spending

The ambition out of achievement or

God out of government and school.

And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from Personal relationships and interactions with Others!

And, we DO understand the meaning of Patriotism, and remember those who  have fought and died for our country.

YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN!

I'm the life of the party.....Even if it only lasts until 8 p.m.

I'm very good at opening childproof caps.....With a hammer.

I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing you're saying.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere.

I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg.

I'm beginning to realise that aging is not for wimps.
