From the Editor
Welcome to this week’s Bulletin. Most importantly, please note is that there is no meeting at Commonwealth Club this week. Acceptances are now closed for the informal meeting at the National Gallery. This week we have a lot of information from the wider world of Rotary: a report from member Faye who has been in Gympie; and information on three Rotary activities that may be of interest to members. And we conclude with a look at a benefit of memory failing with age.

Last week’s meeting
On Thursday, 17 August, we heard from Bruno Ferronato on work to monitor and protect the population of long necked tortoises in the ACT. Pictured is Astrida thanking Bruno for his presentation.

Next meeting
Our next meeting, on 24 August, will be a tour of the National Gallery, followed by coffee and a snack at the outside café. Acceptances for this meeting are now closed.

Look Out Rotary’s About
We see a lot of Rotary branded Community projects but we often forget the wonderful work done by Rotaractors, many of whom go onto membership of Rotary Club. We spotted this very scenic park while travelling through Gympie from Hervey Bay to the Sunshine Coast.

The plaque reads:
“In 1977/78 members of the Gympie Rotaract Club constructed a Children’s playground in this area as a community project and named the area Rotaract Park. In later years the Gympie/Cooloola Rotaract Club donated seating to the area. In recognition of their efforts, the Gympie Regional Council has since renamed the area ROTARACT PLACE and merged it into the general upgraded park area.”

The plaque even has some bird droppings attesting to it being a perfect landing spot for the plentiful birdlife in Gympie.

Rotary Activities
During the week I’ve received a few items on various Rotary activities.
