From the Editor
Welcome to another News Notes. As usual, there’s a report of last week’s (informal) meeting; information on this week’s meeting; dates for your diary; some photos of interest; and, to welcome Eric’s month as Acting President, a cartoon on cruising. Happy reading!

Annual General Meeting
The Club’s Annual General Meeting and elections will be held on Thursday, 16 November, during our regular meeting at the Commonwealth Club. Secretary Russell has sent out the agenda and last AGM minutes: please let him know if you haven’t received them.

Last week’s meeting
Dinner at Annies
Last Thursday the Club met interstate: eight members and two spouses enjoyed a three‑course meal at Annies in Queanbeyan. This is a drop-in centre run by St Benedict’s (aka Bennies), a cooperation between four churches in Queanbeyan. The Chairman (Michael) and CEO (Elaine) of Bennies spoke briefly to the Club on the services provided there, including meals, social connection, bread and other groceries, frozen meals for those who need them, and help accessing affordable housing, both emergency (short-term) and longer-term solutions.

Bennies is on the web, at: https://sites.google.com/view/stbenedictsqbn3/home (it’s also on Facebook as St Benedict’s Community Centre). Tax deductible donations may be made at:

St Benedict’s has applied for a NSW Government grant to expand and increase the capacity of Annies kitchen. If successful, the grant will cover much of the cost, but some funding will still be required. This would provide an opportunity for our Club to make a donation for a specific item, should members wish this.

Next meeting
On Thursday, 2 November, the Club will meet at the Commonwealth Club and hear from Alex Budd, Director of the Canberra Theatre Centre, about Reimagining the Canberra Theatre Centre.
