Club News From our President 14th April

Good evening Club members and Friends,

Last Thursday our guest speaker Ambassador De La Vega from the Philippines gave a very interesting talk on the close relationship between her Country and Australia, and how we are now celebrating  75 years of a diplomatic relationship.

Next week our guest speaker is PDG Steve Hill.

Look out for a following E Mail from me with all the details regarding our TAFE dinner on Thursday the 29th April. I hope you all can all come - something different will be a good opportunity for socializing.
Let Linda know as soon as possible that you will be attending so we can finalize  numbers with TAFE.
Remember also payment ( $35 per head ) must be paid to Ross before the evening. His note is below.

Another date to put in your diary is the 1st July which will be our Rotary year change over dinner. Again this is a special night for the Club - a chance to welcome our incoming President and thank the hardworking Board for all we have achieved in 2020/21.

We are still waiting to hear from the Canberra Rotary Club on a date for a joint meeting when the guest speaker will be the Governor General.

   MORNING CHUCKLES.

Diapers and politicians should be changed often - and for the same reason.

Never confuse education with intelligence .

Reading can seriously damage your  ignorance.

I recently bought a toilet brush
Long story short , I' m going back to toilet paper.

The ability to speak several languages is an asset, but the ability to keep your mouth shut in any language is priceless.

Never make fun of someone who speaks broken English. It means they know another language.

Be decisive. Right or wrong make a decision . The road of life is paved with flat squirrels who could' not make a decision.

  President Eric.

Sharon Green represents the Club-

What a wonderful, but slightly cold afternoon I had today in Glebe Park, representing our Rotary club at the Federation of Indian Associations of the ACT. There are 29 member associations of FINACT with approx 15000 Indians living on Canberra.

Dr Sunita Dhindsa, the President and her executive members were most welcoming. In fact, I had not a moment to myself.  I have never been made to feel so welcome at any official function before.

There were surprisingly a rather large number of politicians from local and federal jurisdictions present,  but thankfully speeches were short.

The funniest thing was that so many people mistook me for belonging to the “green’s” party. I was surprised that they could actually read my surname on my Rotary badge😃

We were acknowledged in the official speeches and many of the people that I spoke to had attended the Harmony Day celebration at the Peace Bell and were familiar with Rotary’s association with it.

There was a good dance presentation and the food provided was lovely.  Their samosas were so much better than mine(!)and I took rather a liking to the Indian Tea.

My “buddy”for the afternoon, Anil, commented on how Canberra has changed since she and her husband arrived in 1988 and how much they love in in Canberra.

Sharon.
