Hello Club Members
DINNER AT ANNIES PLACE IN QUEANBEYAN ON THURSDAY, 24 OCTOBER.
We had eight members and one spouse attend a lovely three course meal at Annies Place. The facility is provided with donated food from OzHarvest, Harris Farms, and other businesses and community groups. They provide breakfast and lunch meals during the week and Stephen McMillan helps out on Fridays to set up and serve meals and coffees to the attendees.
Father Michael and Elaine spoke about how the demand for their services had increased recently because the cost of living increases for food and accommodation.
ROTARY EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS
Each club in the District is asked to nominate a member of the emergency services for an Award of Outstanding Service. I will be calling for nominations at the next meeting.
THE CANDLE FESTIVAL TAIYAKI AND DRINKS STALL
Bill will give us an update of the outcomes of our stall at the Candle Festival at our meeting this Thursday.
MERGER DISCUSSIONS
To facilitate our merger, it was agreed we should have two joint meetings with the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise in November. The first one will be on Thursday the 7th of November. We will join the Sunrise Club for their breakfast meeting at the Mercure at 7.30am. The speaker is Air Commodore Dr Mark Lax who is a military historian speaking on the topic of “Military History Relevant to Armistice Day (the 11th of November)”.
The second joint meeting would be Sunrise members joining our meeting at the Royal Canberra Golf Club on the 14th November. We will not have a speaker for this meeting as this will allow members of each Club to get to know each other better. We will outline the main activities each Club does during the year so we can feel engaged in maintain these activities within the new club. The main two activities of the Sunrise Club are MUNA and Dream Cricket.
